Wow!! An update already! I am getting better at this I think!
This time though, I need your help! We need you guys to send this blog link to everyone...email it, post it as a status on facebook, spam everyone!!! The reason for this will be explained in a paragraph or two:
So, last week, Jeanette and I met an elderly couple who live in Capricorn Township where we have been working. They live in a part of the township we have never even been too...their names are Dick (pronounced Deke) and Lena. They are both in their 70's, which is amazing since the average life expectancy in South Africa is in the late 40's....and they live in a township!
We sat down in their house and just talked for a few hours last Thursday. We learned of how they met, where they grew up, what it was like to be a black/coloured person during apartheid, and the struggles of life they have witnessed. They were forcefully moved out of their homes during apartheid and moved into the townships... They have 7 children, ranging from about 40 to 24! These people are amazing. They are elders in the community, and due to this, they are not employed anywhere...and all they receive is a small government stipend...not even enough to live on. Keeping electricity on is a extreme luxury for this family, food is not found unless it is given to them, and the lack of jobs has affected their adult children...many of whom still live with them. 9 years ago, one of their sons was murdered outside of their house... he was a well educated member of the community. He worked on a council who was distributing free housing to people who were victims of apartheid...he was murdered because he was against selling these houses. A rival council is speculated to have had a hit list as many of the members on the council were gunned down during this time. As they told us their story we learned of a very present need. They had to move out of their bedroom and they are stuffed into a tiny room due to a rusted roof over their bedroom.... These people do not have enough money to buy a new roof and they are to old to do it themselves, so they would have to hire help....this is where we come in!!!

I want us to raise money to buy them a new roof! You may be thinking..."I am not made of money..." well here is the good news: You don't have to be!!! We need to raise 300 dollars to get the roof over their bedroom fixed....so PLEASE help with this! Donate on our paypal and anything that comes in in the next week is going towards Dick and Lena's roof...we are then going to purchase the roofing material, and do it for them...free of charge! We have pictures I will try to post now (not sure if the internet will let me) of them and the roof....and we will update with pictures of the new roof! I know that we can do this....so please, as I said before...
post this blogspot: http://beautifularethemessengers.blogspot.com on facebook, email people, call people, etc. LETS HELP THESE PEOPLE WHERE WE CAN! Just donate the money through our paypal at the top right hand of our blog and lets get this going....we would never let our own grandparents/ parents sleep in the rain....why should these parents be any different?
